I am reading this one now. I plan to use it for my adult book discussion group. While I think the group will enjoy it, and it has its moments of fascination and intrigue, I don't see this book appealing to many younger readers in either jr or sr high school. That's just my impression so far.

I loved this book and passed it on to my husband to read. I think it would have the greatest "guy" appeal of any of the titles. It has action, adventure, it's informative and insightful. There is plenty to discuss about the impact of colonization on cultures.
Studies show that teen boys gravitate to NF. And as a NF booster, I'd like to see NF on our list.

I did enjoy this book and agree that it is the one book most likely to appeal to men. The beginning of the book was very interesting and exciting, but I felt it got a little monotonous with each expedition that was described. I was also hoping to read more about he author's expedition. I was disappointed that his part of the story was slipped in rather quickly at the very end. I think this would be an OK RARI choice, but I think some of the other books would be better.
